Authoritative Link Tips

Hi QualityGal writers!   Here at the QG office we know that it can be difficult to find authoritative links to put in articles, especially those articles with lots of links so I am going to share some of the tips that I find helpful in searching for good links.  I also want to give you some examples of pages that aren’t so good.

Probably one of the easiest ways to find good links is to use search commands.  There are a lot of different search commands that you can use; below are just a few of the ones I find super useful:

Google Search Commands

Related:phrase (shows pages that are related to each other)

Site:phrase (this is great for finding .edu and .gov pages just put .gov or .edu as the phrase)

Intitle:phrase (some of the keywords of your phrase will appear in the title of the page)

Inurl:phrase (some keywords of your phrase will appear in the page url, this is good for finding k12 websites)

My favorite search command is the site:.edu or site:.gov.  These commands are awesome for finding really good, authoritative sites on the subject you are writing about.  There are tons of search phrases out there that will make it easier for you to find high quality sites to put in your articles.  Check out searchcommands.com to see some of the other commands that might be helpful.

So now that you know how to find great links, here are some examples of pages that are not good authoritative links.  These pages are covered in adsense and don’t look very trusted:

http://www.hairloss-baldness.info/stop-hair-loss.html

http://www.bad-credit-advisor.com/help-for-bad-credit.html

If you take a look at the url’s above you will notice that they are filled with ads and do not look very trustworthy.  While it is not always the case, often times made for adsense sites have a lot of dashes in the urls.  If you have any good tips for finding authoritative links or for staying away from adsense sights please feel free to share!

  1. Wonderful tips, Katie! I tell you, with Quality Gal, I learn something new almost everyday. That was useful information on the Ad sites having dashes. With this info, I am sure better articles will be submitted, especially from little ole me. I need to hang this memo above my desk.

Great points Katie! I also like when .mil links are included in articles. They can be found the same way .gov and .edu links are found using the site: command. Just type site:.mil “search phrase” and see what you find.

This post is God-send! LOL. I used to stay away from projects requiring 20 authoritative links or more, but this article surely encouraged me to claim projects even if they require 35 links or more. I am looking forward to more “tips” to come. Thank you very much.
